Maternity sessions are one of my favorite ways to celebrate the beauty of motherhood. Whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, you deserve images that honor the strength and anticipation in this chapter. If you’re starting to think about planning your session, here’s everything you need to know—timing, prep, and what to wear—so you can feel confident and ready for your Augusta GA maternity photography session.

How to prepare for your Augusta GA maternity photo session –
When Should I Schedule My Maternity Session?
I typically recommend scheduling your maternity session for when you’re between 28–32 weeks along. Around this time, your bump is usually beautifully round and perfect for portraits, but you’re likely still feeling comfortable enough to move around, walk, and pose with ease.
While every pregnancy is different, I do ask that sessions be scheduled no later than 36 weeks—just in case baby decides to make an early appearance. This also gives us the best chance of a relaxed, enjoyable session with no last-minute stress.
What Should I Wear?
When choosing outfits for your maternity session, focus on coordination rather than matching. Outfits look best on camera when colors and textures complement each other, rather than everyone wearing the exact same thing.
Most of my mamas-to-be start with choosing their outfit first—and I love helping with that! My client closet includes a curated collection of bump-friendly, size-inclusive dresses designed specifically for maternity, newborn and family sessions. From soft, flowing fabrics to timeless silhouettes, these dresses photograph beautifully and are comfortable to wear (because that matters too!). You’re welcome to browse pieces ahead of time—styling should be one of the fun parts of this experience.

How to Prep Little Ones
A little prep goes a long way when it comes to happy kids and great photos. If your little ones are old enough, talk to them beforehand about what to expect and how special these photos are to you. A small reward after the session—like ice cream or their favorite meal—can be a fun motivator!
Make sure your kids are well-rested, fed, and screen-free leading up to the session so they’re ready to engage.
Most importantly, give yourself and your kids grace. I’ve worked with all kinds of personalities and know how to go with the flow—so even if things don’t go perfectly, we’ll still capture beautiful, meaningful moments.
What to Bring to Your Maternity Session
A little prep goes a long way in making your session smooth and stress-free. Here’s a quick list of what to bring for both you and the kids:
For You:
- Flats or flip-flops for walking between photo spots
- A second outfit (if desired), including shoes and accessories
- Touch-up makeup
- Any props you’d like to include (florals, ultrasound, baby booties or book)
- A coat or wrap for cooler sessions
- Water to stay hydrated
For the Kids:
- A small bag with water, a mess-free snack, and a neutral-colored toy (just in case it ends up in a few photos!)
- A backup outfit (because little ones have a way of keeping things interesting)
- Anything small that helps them feel calm or engaged during the session
These simple additions can make a big difference and help everyone enjoy the experience!

Want to Document Baby’s First Year, Too?
If you’re considering newborn photos as well, this is the perfect time to think about a Signature Membership. This plan includes priority booking for 3–4 sessions within an 18 month-period. Most use it as a First Year Collection to beautifully document maternity, newborn, 6-month and 1-year milestones.
This option gives you a seamless way to capture every sweet stage of your growing family with consistent style and care. You can learn more about Newborn sessions by clicking here. If you’re already dreaming about those first snuggles and baby toes, let’s start planning now.
