Life Lessons from a Jury Summons | Martinez GA Family Photographer

Martinez GA Family Photographer - Family smiles and snuggles on bed together.

September 15, 2025

That jury duty question that stumped me, mom and Martinez GA Family Photographer.

Filling out my recent jury duty questionnaire I got to the section asking about personal hobbies—sports, activities, passions…

And my brain went… silent.

What do I like to do?
Do I even have hobbies anymore?

Does “cutting up apples for the third snack of the day” count?
How about “matching tiny socks” or “chauffeuring my child to practice”?

All I could think of were my kids’ interests—what they’re into, what they’re doing, where they need to be.

The Conversation That Got Me Thinking

It reminded me of a conversation my husband and I had just a few days earlier—about life after the little kid years.

When our house is quieter.
When time stretches a little more slowly.
What will we be into?
What will we look forward to?
Who will we be outside of the roles we’re in right now?

Why Wait?

And it made me wonder: What would it look like to start building that version of ourselves now?

Not waiting until the kids are older.
Not waiting for the schedule to open up.
Not waiting for the house to be less chaotic.

Because we’re still us in the middle of all this. And we matter, too.

Here’s Your Gentle Nudge

Here’s to remembering what we love.
Here’s to new and former passions.
Here’s to the moms trying to answer the “hobbies” question without just writing: laundry.

Motherhood may be your world—but it’s not all of you.
